And, The Emmys Go To… GH Snags 4 Daytime Awards
Port Charles shines just a little brighter this week, four times brighter to be exact! May the dedication to quality drama continue for many decades to come!
On June 7, the team of General Hospital celebrated decades of Daytime excellence, comradery and new accolades. Many of the shows cast members took to social media to share their exuberance and highlights of the event. In total the show snagged four Daytime Emmy Awards: Robert Gossett ~ Outstanding Supporting Performance Actor, Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing Team Drama Series and Outstanding Directing Team Drama Series. The show shared the exciting news on social media.
GH was nominated for a total of eight Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Art Direction/Set Direction/Scenic Design, Outstanding Writing Team Drama Series, Outstanding Directing Team Drama Series, Outstanding Drama Series, Finola Hughes ~ Outstanding Lead Performance Actress, Cynthia Watros ~ Outstanding Lead Performance Actress, Alley Mills Outstanding Supporting Performance Actress and Robert Gossett ~ Outstanding Supporting Performance Actor.
Many soap stars have transitioned from one show to another and back again, over the years, creating a supportive community within the world of soaps. And, so it was rather natural that the nominees who did not take home the Emmy were elated for their colleagues and cheered them on.
“I’ve been so lucky to have been going to the Daytime Emmys since 1998! For many different shows through the years… All My Children, Extra, I Wanna Be a Soap Star, Good Morning America, Dancing With The Stars, Entertainment Tonight, Home and Family, General Hospital,” Cameron Mathison posted on Instagram, along with a photo of himself on the red carpet. “The daytime community is truly like one big family and the Emmy’s are like our family reunion every year❤️ Congrats to my General Hospital ABC family for cleaning up again this year👊🏼🏆.”
Outstanding Lead Performance nominee Finola Hughes posted photos on social media of herself with costars Laura Wright and Maura West en route to the awards ceremony and a photo of executive producer, Frank Valentini on stage accepting an Emmy along with the GH team. The caption read: “How it started… how it ended… General Hospital ABC won for show Daytime Emmys. So grateful to be part of this daytime family. Longer than I ever imagined. Incredibly fortunate 💕.” Hughes is a fan favorite for her portrayal of Anna Devine, a character she originated in the 80s. Though she didn’t win, fans are extremely loyal to her, with one fan @samvisco commenting on Instagram, “FINOLA HUGHES THE PEOPLES CHOICE.”
