G.H. Snags Daytime Emmy Nominations: Finola Hughes, Cynthia Watros & Outstanding Drama Series
It’s been a thrilling week in Port Charles! Congratulations are in order for the entire cast and crew of General Hospital as they celebrate their Daytime Emmys Nomination for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. Last year, fans were lured back day after day with a multitude of tangled webs woven into the plot, so it’s no wonder this nomination was bestowed upon the show.
G.H. premiered on the ABC television network on April 1, 1963. It is the longest-running soap opera in production, and the longest-running entertainment program in ABC television history. It holds the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards, with 14 wins. Will G.H. be adding three more this year?
And, yes, that is correct show favorite and soap legend, Finola Hughes received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her portrayal of Anna Devane. Hughes originated the role in 1985, and she has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy 10 times, with one win.
Now that Hughes’ iconic character is once again rising to glamour and prominence, will Anna find love and adventure again? But, like the epic 80s kind that originally made fans fall in love. She’s been so focused on work especially with the recent Sonny and Jason drama, but how about a little work/life balance?
IRL the drama may be heating up… Cynthia Watros also received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress! for her portrayal of Nina. Watros has taken a different approach to the character than her predecessors, she has not shied away from allowing the turbulence and instability of Nina’s mind boil to the surface. It is perhaps her singular obsession with Sonny which overrides all reason in matters of business and family that keeps fans fascinated.
Congratulations to the people of Port Charles! However, there are several other shows and performers nominated, so don’t miss the ceremony or the drama!
The 51st Daytime Emmys ceremony will be held in Los Angeles at the Westin Bonaventure on Friday, June 7 @ 8/7c. The show will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+. Check local listings.
