General Hospital’s Mixed Bag of Women
General Hospital’s PTB seem to be going to extremes with female characters – either really likable or, well, not. Or, in some cases, really ridiculous. Let’s take a look.
Doc With a Bad Non-Bedside Manner
First, there is Portia, who has been becoming increasingly controlling and out of line, setting a bad example as someone in a position of power at the hospital. She was as sweet as pie to a guilt-ridden Anna in front of a then wheelchair-bound Curtis, then she ripped into her when they went outside, as if Anna wanted the shooting to happen. This mama bear has been trying to control her daughter’s life from day one, even pushing Spencer toward Esme. And speaking of Esme, don’t even get me started on how Portia acted toward Kevin, Alexis, and Laura at the hospital when she butted into their conversation about Heather.
Rolling Off the Deep End
I am really thinking Nina is due for a visit to the psych ward again. She has been been emotionally abusive to people who have done nothing to hurt her, especially Alexis (hopefully Diane will help put an end to that forced alliance). She is so unprofessional, and thank goodness she is no longer running the Metro Court (Madison, her assistant at Crimson, should keep sending out resumes), as she doesn’t even have the sense to notice an injured guest, or to even take notice of who is in someone’s office before she barges in and runs her mouth. At least she finally conceded in her quest to win back Sonny (but now Ava had better watch out).
The Good Ones
Several GH women are, in my opinion, commenable.
— Alexis has been handling her job and all the grief from Nina well and has been a great friend to Gregory.
— Elizabeth is admirable, considering what has been foisted upon her – dealing with being head nurse while having to navigate Jake’s hostility toward his not-so-dead dad.
— Although Sasha is no longer dealing with emotional turmoil, it is hard for me to believe that, when she is admittedly struggling financially after the Gladys debacle, she would give up the financial status the Face of Deception awarded her – all because she does not want to be judged by her looks. Anyone could see that the character is not some emptyheaded bimbo; she is intelligent and respectable.
Et Cetera
— Bravo to Tracy for being a wonderful grandmother to Brook Lynn and making her see that buying Chase a truck to make up for the one he sold would not be a good idea.
— Brook Lynn herself has completely turned around as far as being a businessperson, speaking her mind to Blaze’s overbearing mom.
— Anna, on the other hand, is becoming hard-hearted. She was extremely insensitive to Molly’s situation when it came to prosecuting Sonny. Everyone knows that in reality, no judge would make her prosecute her own uncle and the father of her sister/cousin (who happens to be carrying her baby).
— As far as Ava’s intentions with Sonny, I won’t even venture a guess – too many theories.
