What Light Through Yonder Window Breaks
Josslyn, dressed in her lifeguard gear, oversees activity at the Metro Court pool. James runs into the area, with Spinelli in pursuit. While James goes for ice cream, Spinelli approaches Josslyn and asks about Jason. Neither have seen Jason recently, and Spinelli is worried about possible tension between Jason and Sonny.
Just then, James shouts “cannonball” and prepares to jump into the pool. Josslyn rushes to stop him, but Gio beats her to the punch. Josslyn and Gio tag-team in their scolding of James. Gio lets a chastised James off with a warning, and James and Spinelli head off. Josslyn smiles at Gio and takes note of his attire. She asks him why he’s working as a pool attendant.
Gio explains that “Aunt Olivia” got him the job, which prompts Josslyn to identify herself as a fellow “nepo baby” since she is Carly’s daughter. Gio clarifies that Olivia made him work to secure the job because he went through the traditional interview process. Now Gio could work and make money like his cousins. Previously, his family had prevented him from working summers because they’d thought it would interfere with his violin practice. Josslyn remarks on Gio’s talents and wonders why he’s “slumming it” in Port Charles when he should be in Carnegie Hall.
Gio says while his sights are on Carnegie Hall, he’s satisfied with playing at the park for the time being. Josslyn thinks people would be camped out for tickets and jokingly asks if he can score her some good tickets. As they banter, Josslyn good-naturedly pushes Gio and accidently launches him into the pool.
Just then, Trina walks up. As a laughing Gio emerges from the pool, she looks startled. Josslyn hands Gio a towel and apologizes. She says she’ll take the blame if anyone asks why Gio’s drenched on his first day of work. Gio dries off and notices Trina. He smiles at her and asks Josslyn for an introduction.
Josslyn tells Trina that Gio was the amazing violinist she had gushed over from Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding. Gio says he was off his game that day, but Josslyn disagrees. When Josslyn introduces Trina, Trina seems flustered. Josslyn and Gio talk more about his summer concerts, and Gio surprises the girls by saying he’ll also be attending PCU. He chances another glance at Trina and says he hopes his extended stay will give them the opportunity to hang out more.
Gio says the college offered him a full scholarship. Josslyn warns him he should be prepared for a bad dorm room, as that’s the status quo for scholarship students. It won’t matter to Gio because he’s staying with the Q’s. Before Trina and Josslyn can caution him about the family dynamics, he reassures them he’s been forewarned, especially about Tracy. He hopes her affinity for music will give him an in with her.
Trina broaches the subject of an upcoming art show she’s helping plan. She asks Gio if he’d be interested in performing. He’s enthusiastic about the idea, as he wants to make as much money as possible for the summer. He suggests Trina and he exchange numbers so they can make plans about it.
Later, Gio has returned to work, and Josslyn tells Trina she needs to do the same. Trina appears distant and a bit emotional, which prompts Josslyn to ask what’s wrong. Trinia admits that she had thought she was getting over seeing Spencer everywhere. But when she had first seen Gio come out of the pool….
She doesn’t finish the thought, but Josslyn understands and hugs Trina.
If Music Be the Food of Love Play On
Blaze finishes the song as Natalia and Kristina watch. Natalia tells Kristina it’ll be a long day and insinuates she should leave since it’s beautiful outside. Kristina smiles at Blaze and says she has all the light she needs. Natalia looks angry.
Blaze asks how it was through the microphone, as she thinks she should do another take. The sound engineer and Natalia assure her it was great, and Natalia instructs Blaze to take a break.
When they’re alone, Kristina suggests that Natalia listen to Blaze’s input, since Blaze is the artist. Natalia says she knows her daughter and she’ll come around to Natalia’s way of thinking, like she always does. Natalia expresses surprise that Kristina showed up, and Kristina responds that she wanted to be there.
Natalia observes some rising tension and wants to know what Kristina’s thinking. Kristina remarks that neither she nor Natalia are subtle about their feelings and she senses that Natalia doesn’t want her there.
Natalia won’t apologize for being direct, but Kristina thinks there’s a distinction between honesty and rudeness. Natalia admits that Kristina’s “role” in Blaze’s life came as a surprise, but she can see how much Blaze cares about her. She says Kristina has a bright future, just like her daughter. And since Natalia also sees Kristina as selfless, she hopes that Kristina will do the right thing when the time comes for Kristina and Blaze to “part ways.”
Kristina isn’t sure why Natalia thinks Blaze and her would break up since the two are happy together. Natalia believes the relationship will get in the way of Blaze finally achieving her dreams since her daughter would eventually have to choose between Kristina and her career. Natalia wants Kristina to make the choice for Blaze. She feels Kristina is coming to understand how much a mother will do for her child.
Blaze returns to the recording room and tells the engineer he can wrap up since she won’t be doing another take. Natalia comes in and Blaze concedes she was right about the song. When Blaze asks what her mother and Kristina were talking about, Natalia makes a vague comment and sends Kristina in.
Blaze hesitantly says she wasn’t expecting to see Kristina, who quickly states that she couldn’t wait to do what she needed to do: apologize. Kristina feels she majorly overreacted and stormed out when she should have stayed. She also apologizes for taking her anger about the situation with Sonny, Molly, and T.J. out on the wrong person. Molly had explained how the conversation had gone. Blaze admits she did feel as if she was under cross-examination.
Kristen opens up about how her reaction had reminded her of her father’s way of dealing with disagreements, and she didn’t want to be that way. Blaze understands and thinks that Kristina was trying to protect the baby. They both agree they’ll keep being honest with each other and embrace. Natalia seethes as she observes the interaction.
The Slings and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune
At the gathering for Gregory, Chase silently watches Finn take a drink. Georgie suddenly appears and exclaims that she found Finn, who turns around, startled. He sees Chase and looks guilty. Maxie comes up and scolds her daughter for yelling. She gives her condolences to Finn and Chase and explains that Georgie wanted Violet to join them at the pool.
Finn thinks it’s a good idea, as it would give Violet a chance to get away from the sadness for a while. Plus, Finn needs to gather Gregory’s belongings and doesn’t want Violet present. Brook Lynn, who has also arrived, offers to help Finn. He politely refuses and claims he needs alone time.
Maxie can understand Finn’s desire because she had felt the same way after losing her sister. She remembers how much having Spinelli there to help her meant, though. Maxie gently suggests that Finn lean on his family and friends. He again states he’d prefer to do it himself. Brook Lynn appears worried.
After Chase brings Violet’s belongings, Violet still hesitates to leave. Finn stoops down and asks the little girl if she’s changed her mind. He’ll take her home with him if she wants to go. Violet says she wants to go to the pool. Finn encourages her to finish her thought. Violet confesses that she doesn’t want her dad to be alone.
Finn tears up, and a concerned Violet asks if he is crying. He admits maybe a little but assures her they’re happy tears. She doesn’t need to worry about him, as it’s a dad’s job to worry about his daughter. Violet counters that it’s a daughter’s job to make sure her dad’s not lonely.
Finn smiles and says he hasn’t felt lonely since she came into his life, and now he wants to give her a break. He hugs Violet and instructs her to have a good time. Maxie assures him they will and departs with Violet.
Finn talks with Chase about the memorial and notes their dad would have loved all the speeches about him. Chase wants to spend time with Finn and talk more about Gregory, but Finn insists he should get home and pack up Gregory’s belongings. After Finn leaves, Brook Lynn informs Chase she had offered to help but Finn had refused. Chase sighs and says that Finn probably wanted to be alone so he could drink.
Brook Lynn isn’t surprised when Chase updates her about seeing Finn down shots. Brook Lynn admits she had thought it might happen, but she didn’t think it was her place to say anything. Chase blames himself for not confronting Finn because of Violet.
Brook Lynn reminds him that he’s grieving too. Chase believes he should’ve seen the signs because he’s a detective. Brook Lynn counters that Chase put trust in his brother because Finn had never given him a reason to act otherwise.
Chase wants to have a talk with Finn. Brook Lynn reminds him that he can’t be the one to keep Finn from drinking. Brook Lynn’s main concern is Violet. She’s worried Finn could endanger his daughter’s well-being.
As the other kids happily play, Violet sits alone. Maxie joins her and inquires why she isn’t playing. Violet confides that she’s worried about her dad.
Maxie says she’ll take Violet home if the little girl wants, but Maxie believes Violet’s dad would feel good knowing his daughter was having fun. She reassures Violet that it’s okay to be both happy and sad. Violet thinks it over and agrees to stay.
Back at his apartment, Finn sadly peruses Gregory’s belongings. When he sees Gregory’s shoes, he remembers helping his father take his shoes off the night Gregory died. Finn mulls over an Alcoholics Anonymous pamphlet. He then snatches car keys from the table and leaves.
Later, Finn sits down at a bar and orders a shot of tequila.
