GH – Recap May 22: Michael asks Dex not to testify against Sonny. Alexis’ case begins.

Finn sits with Gregory’s cane remembering the last fight they had over the wedding when Violet enters. She had a half day at school and one of the other mothers (Mary) dropped her off. Finn sits her down to explain to her that Grandpa passed away.

In the park, Dex explains that he hasn’t turned Sonny in because he hasn’t decided what to do yet. Michael wants him to not report Sonny on behalf of him and Kristina.

At Dante’s, Sonny demands to know what the hell is going on with Dante. He goes on about Michael and Dex’s betrayal and how after everything Dex did to him, he left him alive. Dante asks if he wants a medal for not killing someone. Sonny complains that Dex is hiding behind a badge and still out to get him. Dante comes to the realization that Sonny has a pattern (history) of violence that goes back well before Cyrus. Sonny asks what Dante is accusing him of.

In the hotel in Albany, Alexis agrees that she wants to make her argument in front of the judge. Diane is excited. Alexis grabs her medal from Gregory. Diane asks what the hell is that and Alexis tells her it’s a good luck charm.

Lois talked to Monica, and she was all for letting Gio move in. Ned asks if she has warned Gio about his mother. Lois comments on Tracy’s irrational hatred of everything Bensonhurst and says no. Ned thinks Gio can win her over because Tracy loves music as long as it isn’t Eddie Maine.

Brook Lynn comforts Chase as they hear the final boarding call for Italy. Chase was surprised by his father’s death. He was so full of life that he thought they had more time with him. They miss boarding as they sit comforting one another.

Dante tells Sonny that he has looked the other way so many times for so long that it is embarrassing. He is done not admitting to himself who Sonny really is. He believes too many people are getting hurt and it is just going to get worse.

Dex asks Josslyn’s opinion on whether or not he could go to the cops. Dex says he is a cadet now and it could be an issue if Sonny hurts someone else. Michael is worried about Kristina having to be a witness while pregnant. He believes it might be too much for her and the baby. Dex angrily asks when is it too much for him.

Blaze and Kristina discuss their complicated parents and their baggage. She tells Kristina that they are not their parents, and she doesn’t want to leave. Kristina says she does not even know who Sonny is anymore. To her, he is a different person after hearing him screaming threats.

Finn delicately explains that because Gregory was sick that he died in his sleep. Violet has a tough time accepting it, saying that his heart was fine yesterday. Finn wants her to focus on how lucky they are to have gotten to spend time with him. Violet denies it and runs into Gregory’s room, calling out for her grandpa. Finn follows her and comforts Violet as she flashes back to several sweet moments between them. Finn says life is beautiful but sometimes it is cruel and unfair.

A somber Brook Lynn and Chase return to the Quartermaine mansion. They wished they could go right to Finn, but he needed time to explain things to Violet. Brook Lynn wants to tell the family and asks if Chase is ready. He says he will never be ready, but he would like to get it over with.

Lois thinks Tracy would have supported Ned’s musical career if Brook Lynn had not followed in her parents’ footsteps. Ned says Tracy would never respect Brook Lynn if she fell in line and entered the family business. She secretly loves how Brook Lynn is her own person. Brook Lynn and Chase enter. Lois asks them why they aren’t on the plane. Ned asks what’s wrong.

Alexis sits in the courtroom beside Diane, playing with the medal. Diane stops her, asking if she had rubbed all the luck out of it. Alexis says if luck is anxiety, yes. Diane tells Alexis that she doesn’t need luck. She has a brilliant attorney she may have heard of Alexis Davis. Diane asks who is ‘their esteemed colleague’ as a handsome lawyer enters and sits down. The bailiff calls all rise as Alexis flips Gregory’s medal anxiously.

Finn carries Violet into the living room, his eyes lingering on the bottle of alcohol. Violet asks where Grandpa is now?

Dante tells Sonny to stay away from Dex Heller. Sonny asks if that’s how Dante helps him by telling him to hide and act like a coward. Dante says it’s not about being a coward, it’s about being smart. If Sonny kills Dex, everyone will know it is him. He can’t make amends from prison. Sonny exclaims that he is forsaking him. Dante counters that he is trying to save him. He shouts that he is done protecting him. Sonny has to face the consequences of his crime. Sonny leaves. A distraught Dante is left behind.

Kristina hates that she put pressure on her brother to go to Dex and stop him from testifying. Blaze insists that Michael is a good brother, and that Kristina loves him. Kristina the position she isn’t happy about the position she put him in.

Dex reminds Michael that he hired him to take down Sonny and him beating on Dex proves that Michael was right to do it. They are never going to get a better chance than now. Michael agrees that Sonny needs to be punished but he doesn’t want a pregnant Kristina to have to testify against her father. Joss agrees with Dex, but she also doesn’t want him to testify either. Dex is upset by her opinion. Joss knows that Dex would feel terrible if testifying hurt Kristina and the baby. She asks him not to file charges.

Sonny enters his penthouse to a worried Ava. Sonny tries to bow out of the room, but Ava asks him not to shut her out. Sonny confesses that Kristina saw something, got the wrong idea, and now he has lost her.

Michael and Joss are at Bobbey’s. He asks if she saw Sonny at the wedding. She did but stayed away from him. Michael says he tried, but Sonny iced him out. He was watching Sonny with the family from Bensonhurst and kept thinking about how that version of Sonny is his father, a kind man, who is charming with dimples. Joss remembers feeling that way about him, thinking he was kind and empathetic. Michael says all the kindness is real but so is the rage. He explains that’s why they wanted Dex to protect Sonny from himself. Now, Joss says Dex needs protection from Sonny. Michael if she and Dex are getting back together.

Finn explains the concept of a funeral to Violet. She asks that when they say goodbye is he in heaven with the angels. Finn says yes. Liz arrives and hugs Violet. Violet asks Liz to hug her dad. Liz holds onto Finn, noticing the glass of liquor. She stares into his eyes before noticing the opened bottle of alcohol. Her expression is closed as she realizes Finn is drinking.

Diane thanks the court for hearing their petition and asks to appeal Alexis’ disbarment. She thinks if they accept their petition and reinstate Alexis that the people and the state will be better for it. The prosecution stands up and says the state would be better off without a proven liar. The judge asks who is bringing the case, and he announces himself as Fergus Byrne, Neil’s brother.

Sonny describes how beautiful the wedding was from the church to the music to the company. He looks over and sees Dex. He had no right to be there, and he looked over at Sonny with a smirk. He calls Dex a punk kid with no respect. Sonny admits to punching him a few times when Ava asked. He says Jason stopped him before he could do something he regretted.

Blaze thinks it might be good if Michael stops Dex. She is worried about the effects a trial would have on Kristina. Kristina didn’t even think about having to testify. She was too worried about her dad, and she realized that is the real reason Michael agreed to talk to Dex. Blaze says Michael wants to spare Kristina. She feels bad about Michael going out on a limb for her. She still loves her dad. Blaze tells her no one expects her to stop loving her dad. Kristina doesn’t believe he should get away with it because she loves him. She makes a call.

Joss denies that she and Dex are back together. She is the one who broke up with him because of what he did (almost killing Cyrus on Sonny’s behalf) and she is still in love with him. When pressed, she admits she hates couples who break up and get back together multiple times. It reminds her of Mom (Carly) and Sonny. She thinks Dex and Sonny are very different, but it isn’t the type of relationship she wanted. She tells Michael how she selfishly believed Dex became a cop to win her back, but he didn’t. He did it for himself to make amends.

Liz asks if Violet will make a friendship bracelet for Aiden to get her out of the room. She talks to Finn about alcohol. She wants to take Violet home with her and have Finn go to a meeting. Finn refuses saying he had one drink to handle his father’s death. Liz says if he won’t let her take Violet, she was going to call someone to come and help.

When Ava asks what Dex said, Sonny says he didn’t say anything, but he was taunting him. Kristina showed up and he had no idea what she heard. She took off and he was unable to explain anything to her. He laments that she was the only one who really believed in him. He is upset that his little girl was afraid of him.

Dex enters the hotel room at the Metro Court. Blaze comments he looks bad. He jokes that he’s had worse just not usually at weddings. Kristina thanks him for coming and blurts out that Josslyn will be happy because she was right. Dex says Joss isn’t interested in being right. Kristina admits to having blinders on when it comes to her father. Dex says he also saw what he wanted to see when he was working for Sonny, and he was just as wrong. She thinks she shouldn’t have asked Michael to stop Dex from testifying. She lets him know if he chooses to do report it, she will testify on his behalf.

Josslyn believes Dex will be a really good cop like Dante. She believes Dex would like it if they got back together but he would be fine if they didn’t because he respects himself and some other girl would get him. Michael wants her to tell Dex she wants to try again. Joss is done changing her mind and Dex deserves better. Michael says no one is better and Dex would agree with him. They hug.

Diane calls Byrne’s presence and a conflict of interest. Fergus says his brother would be alive today if it wasn’t for Alexis. Diane and Fergus argue but Alexis has no issue with his presence. She never had a chance to argue her case previously and thinks it is fitting for Fergus to have a front row seat.

Lois hugs Chase and tells him that every moment in his father’s presence was pure joy. She goes to Brook Lynn to ask if she is okay while Ned offers condolences. Brook Lynn asks where Tracy is. Ned tells them that she went down to the stables. Ned offers to walk Chase down. Lois can’t believe he is gone. She believes that God has a plan, but it would be nice to get a heads up sometimes. They sit. Lois says that because of their wedding that he died the happiest man on the planet. Brook Lynn calls him brave and says that he used so much strength for the wedding that he didn’t have any left. They comfort each other.
