What Really Happened to General Hospital’s Lulu?

General Hospital is Looking for a New Lulu

With actress Emme Rylan confirming that GH is recasting the role in her Instagram stories a few weeks back, we know Lulu will become a full-fledged character again — with a brand-new face. As fans know, Rylan was the last actress to play Lulu, taking over for Julie Marie Berman in 2014.

Lulu has been in a coma since the fall of 2020, but how did she get there and what will her life be like when she wakes?

Lulu’s Never-Ending Coma May End

Poor Lulu was torn between her new boyfriend, Dustin, and her ex-husband, Dante, when a bomb went off at The Floating Rib, leaving multiple characters dead and injured. Lulu was knocked unconscious, but when she woke up at the hospital, she seemed to only have a few minor lacerations. Sadly, she was told Dustin had died in the explosion. While Lulu grieved for Dustin, she didn’t want to waste another moment of her life without Dante.

Lulu tracked Dante down in the hospital chapel where she tried to tell him that she loved him. However, before she could get the words out, Lulu was suddenly overcome with a violent headache that led to her passing out. It turned out that her injuries were more extensive than the doctors had originally believed.

A brain aneurysm caused Lulu to slip into a coma, where she remains to this day. Laura had Lulu placed in a long-term care facility outside of Port Charles. She and Dante frequently visit Lulu, but until now, there has been no change in her condition.

When Lulu finally wakes

When Lulu does emerge from her seemingly never-ending slumber, she will have a lot to catch up on. For one, her two children are now teenagers, and her daughter was shot last year after she stalked Anna for months. Now, Charlotte is on the run with Valentin and Laura is desperate to find the girl so she can see her mother again.

Lulu will have to contend with the fact that Dante has moved on as well. He is now in a serious relationship with Sam. Even her house has a new family as Maxie has taken up residence with her own brood of kids, as well as Spinelli. Life is going to be shocking for Lulu very soon, but her awakening is a much-needed event to shake up Port Charles.
