Why Would Cyrus Kill General Hospital’s Sam?

General Hospital fans finally know just who killed Sam McCall. It was Cyrus Renault, proving he is just as much a bad guy as he’s always been, but why would he do it?

Misguided Cyrus Is a Murderer

With Cyrus (Jeff Kober) hanging around GH and Turning Woods, it became clear that he was obsessed with Lulu (Alexa Havins). After all, he was the one responsible for putting her in her coma when he ordered Julian Jerome (William deVry) to plant that bomb at the Floating Rib. He had told Julian to make sure the place wasn’t crowded, but Julian screwed up and Cyrus’ niece became a victim.

Did Cyrus hope that a liver transplant might prompt Lulu to wake, which was exactly what happened? If so, he would have wanted her to be happy and resume her life the way she wanted. What Lulu had wanted and still wants is, Dante but Sam (Kelly Monaco) was in the way. If Sam were dead, then Dante would be free to be with Lulu. Or at least that was what Cyrus may have believed.

Perhaps Cyrus was using his warped sense of newfound religion to justify his motives. Making someone happy is doing the Lord’s work, right? Of course, this does not explain the other mysteries surrounding Lulu’s hospital stay. Was Cyrus also responsible for Lulu’s ventilator malfunctioning? Was he trying to put Lulu out of her misery at that point? Perhaps Cyrus thought he was doing the right thing because Cyrus is often delusional.

Whatever the answer turns out to be, it’s clear that Cyrus can’t be long for Port Charles life. If you kill Sam McCall, you are going to have to answer to a hitman named Jason (Steve Burton).
