The Best and Worst of Days of our Lives for August 19-23

Days of our Lives brought the drama the week of August 19-23. Some moments were hits, some were misses, and Soap Talks has the rundown on what worked and what didn’t in Port Charles this past week.

The Best of DAYS

Don’t ever get on Gabi Hernandez’s (Cherie Jimenez) wronged list because her reaction to anything you did to her will be brutal. But, who can blame Gabi (Camilla Banus) for losing it on her husband upon learning he cheated on her when she was languishing behind bars for a murder she didn’t commit? Knowing she is going to remain in the DiMera mansion just to drive EJ (Daniel Feurriegel) and Stefan (Brandon Barash) crazy is the icing on the cake of this fun storyline.

When Jennifer Deveraux laid eyes on the woman people are telling is his Abigail (AnnaLynne McCord), things went a little haywire. Jennifer’s maternal instincts kicked in and she immediately knew she wasn’t looking at her daughter. Cady McClain turned in a masterful performance as everyone around her told her this woman was Abigail and the logical side of her brain had trouble accepting the DNA results.

When EJ met Abigail or whoever this woman happens to be, he was absolutely giddy and decided to have some fun with the whole situation. Watching EJ drop bomb after bomb on the new Abigail about her sordid life with the DiMera brothers was delightful. Too bad we didn’t get to see him inform her that she killed Andre and developed alters.

The Worst of DAYS

While on paper Connie’s (Julie Dove) reign of terror might look soapy and campy in the tradition of Passions of DAYS stories of past, the execution is just off. We don’t know or understand enough about Connie to be invested in this tale. On top of that, the cardboard cutout of Li (Remington Hoffman) doesn’t hit quite as well as when The Bold and the Beautiful tried this when Thomas’ mannequin of Hope came alive in his apartment. As for Melinda (Tina Huang), she is the last character we’d ever expected to see in a Misery-like scenario.

Why is Body & Soul even happening and how did Kate (Lauren Koslow) and Abe (James Reynolds) suddenly become soap opera writers? Abe is the former police commissioner and mayor. Don’t tell us that a year with amnesia changed him so much that he is now writing a soap opera in Salem and casting his friends in pivotal roles. Plus, Hattie (Deidre Hall) not realizing that Leo (Greg Rikaart) thinks she is Marlena is just plain silly.

We were also confused by an entire episode of Roman and Ava sitting around talking about absolutely nothing. Did DAYS need to fulfill Josh Taylor and Tamara Braun’s minimums when these scenes were scripted?

Don’t forget to watch new episodes of Days of our Lives on Peacock starting at 6 AM ET each weekday.
