Days of our Lives celebrated 15,000 episodes today after making news in both expected and unexpected ways over the last few days.

Tragedy Strikes the Days of our Lives family

Long-ago iconic DAYS star Wayne Northrop passed away on November 29 after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s. His wife of 43 years, General Hospital’s Lynn Herring, released the following statement:

“Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago.  He took his last breath in the arms of his family.  We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”

Northrop played Roman Brady on DAYS off and on between 1981 and 1994. He later returned to the soap as Alex North. The actor also worked with his wife on Port Charles where he played Rex. Northrop’s on-screen daughter, Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), paid tribute to him on Instagram.

“Sending much love to Lynn and the whole Northrup family today. My first scenes as Sami were with Wayne – I remember him helping me understand how to pretend to break into the Brady house with a bobby-pin. He was a wonderful, kind man, a talented, generous actor, and a beloved member of the Days family. I learned so much from working with Wayne and will treasure the memories with him.”

A New Doug Williams

DAYS fans were also introduced to Doug Williams III, the grandson of the late Doug Williams. Doug III is the son of Doug I’s son, Dougie, a character who has not been heard from in many years.

Girl Meets World alum Peyton Meyer plays young Doug, who was recently released from jail. He heads to Salem on the day his grandfather is to be buried. That is how DAYS marks its 15,000th episode, with comebacks galore. Julie will bring Doug III back to the Horton House after Ciara manages to open Alice Horton’s time capsule. And the Days of our Lives will go on…
